Second Essex District granted $83,000 via MassDEP Sustainable Materials Recovery Program
Funding will go toward recycling dividends programs
(BOSTON—12/19/2024) Senate Assistant Majority Leader Joan B. Lovely (D-Salem) is pleased to announce that the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has awarded communities in the Second Essex District $83,000 in grants as part of the Sustainable Materials Recovery Program (SMRP).
Each of the awards will be used for designated activities and equipment that will enhance the performance of waste reduction as part of recycling dividends programs, with Beverly receiving $18,900, Danvers receiving $13,000, Salem receiving $38,500, and Peabody receiving $12,600.
“This funding will go a long way in supporting waste reduction and recycling efforts in every community,” said Senator Lovely. “Thank you to the Healey-Driscoll Administration for prioritizing waste reduction and sustainability in our communities.”
MassDEP’s SMRP Program provides funding for recycling, composting, reuse, and source reduction activities that will reduce the amount of waste disposed of in landfills and incinerators. Waste prevention and recycling reduce greenhouse gas emissions by capturing the embodied energy in everyday products and packaging waste and converting it into new products.
