Beverly and Salem receive Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities grants
Funding will be used for economic development and housing planning
BOSTON—(10/15/2024) Senate Assistant Majority Leader Joan B. Lovely (D–Salem) is pleased to announce that the Healey-Driscoll Administration, in partnership with Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities Secretary Edward M. Augustus, Jr., has awarded Housing Choice program grants to the City of Beverly and the City of Salem as part of the FY25 Community One Stop for Growth initiative.
Beverly has been awarded $85,000 to create an Economic Development Action Plan. This plan will build on recent planning work to identify strategies and partnerships that align with Beverly’s economic development goals outlined in its Master Plan.
Salem has received a $400,000 grant to conduct an alternatives analysis and prepare a 30% design plan for the Franklin Street corridor. This project will support the development of over 230 housing units, 35% of which will be affordable, as well as approximately 48,255 square feet of commercial space near the Salem MBTA Station.
“I am thrilled to see these investments in Beverly and Salem,” said Senator Lovely. “These grants will directly support the creation of more housing and commercial space, along with jobs, that will grow our local economy and improve quality of life for residents. Thank you to the Healey-Driscoll Administration and Secretary Augustus for their continued commitment to strengthening housing in our communities through these grants.”
Award letters are not binding commitments, and awards will not be funded until the awardee signs a contract with the funding agency; for projects in MBTA communities, contracts will only be executed if the community complies with the multifamily zoning mandate.
